Brahe (b. Dec. 14, 1546, Knudstrup, Scania, Den.--d. Oct. 24, 1601, Prague), Danish astronomer whose work in developing astronomical instruments and in measuring and fixing the positions of stars paved the way for future discoveries. Tycho Brahe often partnered with Johannes Kepler when working. They were frequent collaborators and used their talents to improve as a whole. Brahe's work depended on observations of the sky, and while Kepler had nowhere near the precision, he was more skilled in geometry and the mathematical sides of science, and could make sense of Brahe's results.

The most prominent astronomer of the late 16th cent., he paved the way for future discoveries by improving instruments and by his precision in fixing the positions of planets and stars. Today, this new star is known as “Tycho Brahe’s Nova.” Aged 25, all young Tycho had yet made was a T-shaped stick about five feet long, called a cross-staff, which could be swung up to the eye to measure the angular distance between stars, and a handheld joint of wood, which he … Tycho Brahe (1546 – 1601), was a Danish nobleman known for his accurate and comprehensive astronomical and planetary observations. One of his greatest achievements is the observation (naked eye) of the SN 1572 supernova on 11 November 1572 which had unexpectedly appeared in the constellation Cassiopeia.

Brahe developed his own models and methodologies, and these enabled him to understand unexpected behaviour in astronomical phenomena, even though they contradicted the antique model of the cosmology of the universe. Tycho Brahe was born as Tyge Ottesen Brahe on 14 December 1546 at Knutstorp Castle, located eight kilometers north of Svalöv, then under Danish Scania, but now a part of Sweden. The castle was the ancestral seat of the Brahes, one of the most powerful noble families of Denmark.

He turned this island into his own little Tycho Brahe didn’t merely guess at random, when it came to some of the observations he made during his life and career. He created his own instruments. In terms of the ability to properly observe the heavens, Brahe’s instruments were the most accurate available to astronomers at that point in time.

Tycho Brahe was a larger than life aristocratic astronomer whose observations became the foundation for a new understanding of the solar system and ultimately gravity.
